When Jacob told his people to put away the strange gods, he did not include earrings- Pastor Kumuyi

Pastor Kumuyi claims that Jacob did not instruct his people to remove their earrings when he told them to put away the strange gods.

At a recent leadership development event, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, addressed his followers on the topic of “Return, Renew Your Life And Ministry At Bethel.”

He read Genesis 35:2–5 and discussed the “Demanded Condition, An Explicit, Submissive Expression” in one of his subtopics. Jacob was instructed by God to travel to Bethel, stay there, and build an altar to Him. Then Jacob ordered his family to get rid of all the odd gods they had and become clean. Then, “they delivered all the alien gods in their hands and all the earrings in their ears to Jacob; and Jacob buried them under the oak that was beside Shechem.”

The cleric claimed that Jacob understood a great deal but said nothing before the Lord spoke to him at this point. He was aware of his family’s situation and that they were wearing attire that was inappropriate for God’s presence, yet he remained silent. Then he continued, “As a member of the family, we know a lot about the world around us and in our family.” When God instructed Jacob to travel back to Bethel, Jacob advised his family and the others who were with him to put away the strange gods they were worshiping, get clean, and put on new clothes.

He continued by saying that although Jacob didn’t specify earrings when he urged them to put away the odd gods, they understood in their hearts that they had built idols out of earrings and that they were sincere despite Jacob’s omission. They gave up everything because they realized that earrings had become into gods, and if they had done so and turned back to those idols, they would not be at the center of God’s will. Instead, the Shekem hid the earrings while they were passing by and refused to sell them to them.
