What is the “world” that will end?

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS

The world in consideration is obviously not the physical earth because it possesses “desires” that warrant God’s condemnation. Instead, it is humanity as a whole that rejects God and turns against him. (James 4:4) The inhabitants of that world “shall receive the just retribution of eternal annihilation.” 7-9 (2 Thessalonians) However, those who follow Jesus Christ and remain “no part of the world” have the chance to experience eternal life. —John 15:19.

The one who carries out God’s purpose, as 1 John 2:17 concludes, “remains eternally.” Yes, according to Psalm 37:29, “The virtuous will possess the world, and they will live forever on it,” that person has the opportunity to experience eternal life right now on earth.

“Avoid loving the world or the goods found in it. Anyone who loves the world does not possess the love of the Father. —1 John 2:15.

How will the world end?

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS

The end will occur in two parts. God will first demolish organized false religion, which is depicted as a prostitute called “Babylon the Great.” Revelation 17:1–5 and 18:8 She has mingled with the world’s political leaders while proclaiming her devotion to God. However, these very rulers will turn against her. “[They] will despise the prostitute and leave her desolate and naked, consuming her flesh [or, wealth] and thoroughly burning her with fire.” 17:16 —Revelation

God will thereafter focus on the political authorities themselves — “the kings of the entire inhabited globe.” These, along with all evil people, will be annihilated in “the fight of the great day of God the Almighty,” commonly known as “Armageddon.” —Revelation 16:14-16

When will the world end?

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS

When mankind has been properly warned by a worldwide announcement of God’s Kingdom — a world government that will replace human rulership — the end will arrive. Daniel 7:13-14 “This good news of the Kingdom will be spread in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations,” Jesus Christ stated, “and then the end will come.” 24:14 (Matthew) That preaching labor, which portrays God’s justice and mercy, is part of a larger “sign” indicating the end of time. International wars, earthquakes, starvation, and illness are also included in the sign. Matthew 24:3; Luke 21:10-11

In addition to foretelling historical events, the Bible provides a sociological profile of “the end days.” “Difficult times will be here,” we read. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money,… disobedient to parents,… lack self-control, be violent, lack love of virtue,… lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God.” * —2 Timothy 3:5

All of these circumstances define the era that began around the time of World War I in 1914. Furthermore, God’s Kingdom has been declared in every corner of the planet since that year, and Jehovah’s Witnesses consider it a privilege to be closely associated with this mission. In fact, the title of their major publication is The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom.

“Keep on the watch, therefore, because you know neither the day nor the hour.”Matthew 25:13.
