Repealing Roe v. Wade, in Hillary Clinton’s opinion, would align the United States with the Taliban and Iranian ayatollahs.
Hillary Clinton asserted at a women’s rights summit that the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, which allowed states to regulate abortion without federal intrusion, had reduced America to the level of the Taliban and the ayatollahs of Iran.
Christiane Amanpour questioned former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton about the “unfinished business” of women’s rights on Friday at the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.
“We have come a long way on so many fronts, but we are also in a moment in time where there is a lot of pushback and much of the advancement that has been taken for granted by numerous people is under invasion: literally under invasion in locations like Iran, Afghanistan, or Ukraine, where sexual violence is a tactic of war, or under attack by cultural and political forces in a nation like our own when it comes to women’s healthcare and bodily independence,” Clinton said, according to National Review.
Fox News further quoted her as saying, “It’s so shocking to think that in any way we’re related to poor Afghanistan and Sudan. But as an advanced economy as we allegedly are, on this measure, we, unfortunately, are rightly put with them. … This struggle is between autocracy and democracy from our country to places we can’t even believe we’re being compared to.”
Bishop Joseph E. Strickland of the Diocese of Tyler, Texas, responded to Clinton’s remarks by tweeting, “Please, please don’t listen to this evil woman. Her lies and immorality need to be silenced for the good of humanity.”
After the overturning of Roe, former first lady Michelle Obama said she was “heartbroken” by the decision.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive congressman from New York, tweeted, “Overturning Roe and prohibiting abortions would never make them go away.” They become even riskier as a result, particularly for the poor and disenfranchised. This option will result in fatalities. And until the United States of America restores the right to abortion, we won’t give up.
Politico revealed a leaked draft judgment in a report issued on May 2 that suggested the justices were likely to overturn Roe while the nation awaited the high court’s decision.
The draft opinion was written in February and authored by Justice Samuel Alito, suggesting the court would rule 5-4 in favor of overturning Roe and allowing states to decide whether to ban abortion.
Even though Politico noted that the draft might alter significantly before it was made public, the announcement nevertheless provoked a number of protests as well as vandalism and arson attacks on churches and pro-life organizations.
There were demonstrations outside the residences of the justices who had concurred in the draft ruling, which led to requests for police enforcement to step up their protection of Supreme Court judges.
Near Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s house at the time, a guy was detained. When he drew close to Kavanaugh’s house, the individual had intended to kill the Supreme Court justice because Roe was going to be overturned but instead handed himself in to police.
