The Greatest Enemy Of A Man Is Not The Devil – Pastor Adeboye
The devil is an enemy of man because he hates everything loved by God and God loves man. However, the devil is not man’s greatest enemy….the greatest enemy of man is the enemy within – The FLESH!”
These were the plain submission of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye in the 31st August, 2020 devotional reading of the daily devotional manual, ‘Open Heavens ‘ authored by him with the inspiration of God.
Our flesh, according to Pastor Adeboye are not our physical flesh but our worldly cravings and desires which, if not subdued or put under control, will ultimately be our albatross. He said a loss in the battle against flesh is very dangerous as it may lead to loss in every other battle of life.
“By flesh , I don’t mean your physical flesh, but your worldly desires….you must not lose the battle against the flesh as such a loss would result in the automatic defeat in other battles of life”
Quoting copiously from the bible, Daddy G.O, as he is fondly referred to, said the flesh will always make you to act in the opposite direction of what the bible commands you to do which forms the genesis of our greatest battles of life.
“The flesh will tell you not to pray even though the bible says “Pray without ceasing “; the flesh will tell you not to fast even though the bible commanded it; the flesh will tell you not to give even though the bible says “Give and it shall be given unto you”
Pastor Adeboye went further to state that the flesh is an enemy within, and if an enemy within cannot kill a person, the one that is outside cannot do either.
“The elders say that if the enemy within cannot kill a man, the enemy without could not be able to do either”
Daddy Adeboye said the ephemeral gain arising from doing the will of the flesh have its fatal repercussion as the end result brings a lot of sorrow.
“Doing the will of the flesh may seem pleasurable now, but believe me, it would ultimately brings sorrow. King David decided to indulge in the flesh for just one day, and the result was the killings upon killings in his household. Up till today, the sword has not left Israel”
In concluding, Pastor Adeboye admonishes us to crave for the greatest victory in life which is the victory over the flesh and the surest way of accessing it is to constantly say “NO” to all its desires and refused to be a fool.
“When next the flesh comes to you with its enticements, say: “Joy to the wise; joy to me. I refuse to be a fool!”
