In separate attacks, Muslims in Uganda have beaten and flogged Christian converts, and one woman has been left unable to walk as a result.
Kenya’s NAIROBI — Sources claim that Muslims in Uganda who were angry with a father of four for converting to Christianity assaulted him and demolished his house. A week later, a 52-year-old convert in a nearby area was also hurt badly enough that she couldn’t walk.
According to Musa Wabwire, 38, he was praying at his house in Bulumba Sub-County, Kaliro District, on September 9 when his family and other Muslims showed up, according to him. Wabwire says that when the head of the mosque saw that he wasn’t at Friday prayers, he sent an assistant to catch him listening to a Christian radio show.
Wabwire, who had secretly accepted Christ while acting as the mosque’s treasurer, stated, “After hearing that, they all became upset and poured into my house and asked me numerous questions, which I failed to answer.” I just instructed them to take their money box, leaving me with Christ, who I considered to be sufficient. They grew so enraged that they began punching me and yelling, “Kafir, Kafir [infidel]!”
He said that he received 40 stick-floggings when he refused to deny Christ. He said that Wabwire’s elder brother, an imam in a neighbouring community, gave the order to have his homestead’s living quarters and crops destroyed.
Wabwire said, “My possessions were left outside in the weather and were drenched.” My brothers advised against killing me in favor of evicting me from the farmstead.
He fled with some of his children, who had already gone home, while his wife was out of town visiting her ailing mother, according to him. For security concerns, he has sought sanctuary in an unknown place with his wife and three children, who are aged 12 and 10, and 5.
Mother Assault
Shadia Namuzungu was assaulted by Muslims in Bwikomba village in the nearby Kibuku District on September 16, only two days after she professed her faith in Jesus.
The mother, 52, claimed to have gone to an evangelical gathering in Kituti village on September 14.
According to Namuzungu, who spoke to Morning Star News, “I have been experiencing severe stomach aches for more than three years.” “When I was prayed for, the discomfort subsided. I made the decision to see the pastor after the meeting.
In her hospital bed, Namuzungu recalled, “He led her to believe in Christ, and she went with much pleasure and peace.” She stepped forward for prayer during the evangelistic event, and her mosque’s imam, Kaire Jamada, saw this. She claimed that on September 15, he and other Muslims visited her house.
When the mosque leader questioned her about receiving prayer from the pastor, she explained that she had been miraculously healed by Christ after a long illness, which had led her to choose to follow Him.
Namuzungu told Morning Star News that the imam “was left in awe and went without speaking a word.” However, the next day, he came back with six more Muslims. Four of them started destroying my fields, slaughtering my sheep, and demolishing my home.
She said that two of the Muslims kicked, slapped, and assaulted her with sticks. When her calls for help reached nearby residents, they departed.
When a Christian neighbor came and brought her to a clinic, she stated, “Shadia began to faint.” She had swollen eyes and serious wounds on her back, both hands, stomach, and legs.
He continued that she was still unable to walk days after being admitted to the hospital.
The latest of several cases of persecution of Christians in Uganda, according to Morning Star News, was the assaults.
Religious freedom in Uganda is protected by the constitution and other legislation, including the ability to practice one’s religion openly and to convert to another. Less than 12% of Uganda’s people are Muslim, and most of them live in the country’s east.
