5 Benefits We Reap From Helping Others

Here are five benefits we get when we help others.

If you’re anything like me, you get a nice fuzzy feeling when you hear of those who have helped others in need. When good deeds are performed, it helps to bring a little of sunshine into an otherwise dark environment. When it comes to my own problems, it’s not always easy for me to put aside my own concerns and concentrate on the welfare of others. Because I am selfish, I am not always willing to put my attention on the needs of others, and giving requires me to make sacrifices.

Sometimes we benefit from others’ generosity even if we don’t recognize it at the time. When we contribute, we get rewards that much exceed the value of anything we could buy for ourselves. In light of these bounties, maybe we will find the impetus to seek for places to make charitable contributions.

The act of generosity rewards us with the following five benefits:

1. The Lord’s faithfulness is affirmed once again.

1. The Lord’s faithfulness is a lesson that may be learned via giving. Sometimes giving might seem risky because it requires us to relinquish control over something valuable in exchange for the satisfaction of another. Giving something up and relying on God to provide for us is an act of faith. It challenges us and serves as a constant reminder of how much we rely on God. As fallible beings, we struggle at times to keep in mind that the Lord is reliable. Recalling instances in which the Lord has supplied for me has been encouraging. The more I think about it, the more I realize that he has always been there for me. What he has given me is usually greater than I could have asked for or dreamed of. It’s lot simpler to let go of my attachments after being reassured once again that he is who he claims he is.

2. It’s a great way to divert attention away from ourselves.
   Focusing only on one’s own wants is a certain way to miss out on the world around one. When we are preoccupied with our own lives, we fail to see when there is a need and where God may be at work among others. Volunteering our time, skills, and resources may help us realize that we are not the center of the universe. When we look around and realize how we may help others with what we have, we are blessed ourselves. When my children are preoccupied with themselves, they tend to believe that what they have is not sufficient and want for more. The downside of having so much self-interest is that you may want to take but never give. It’s a terrible way to go through life and it’ll never fulfill you. I’m glad the Lord has a better plan for us than we do because he understands us better than we do. That’s what it means to put aside selfish concerns and concentrate on the needs of others so that we may generously share what we have. This manner of living has brought me greater happiness than just seeking my own desires.

3. It helps us focus on what’s really important.
   With the distractions of modern life, it’s easy to lose sight of what really matters. Day in and day out, we are bombarded with a variety of opinions and suggestions on how we should spend our time and energy. In the daily din of competing demands for our attention, it’s easy to lose sight of the most pressing issues. Being generous may help us see what’s really essential. The Lord ultimately owns all we own. Absolutely everything we own was bestowed upon us by his kind hand. Gaining this viewpoint will aid us in prioritizing our lives. Understanding the value of our resources allows us to generously contribute to those in need. Giving not only motivates us to contribute, but also reminds us of what’s really essential in life.

4. It helps us to become more Christlike.
   Jesus Christ is the epitome of a selfless giver. He did everything for the benefit of those around him and the honor of the Father. He never accomplished anything for his own benefit. One way we might more closely resemble Jesus is by being generous with our time, energy, and resources. To the extent that becoming more like Jesus is our objective, then putting our resources to work for the benefit of others is a crucial step along the way. God never intended for us to hoard our blessings, but rather to give them away to others so that their lives would be enriched and others could be led to Jesus. Having this knowledge makes us more like Jesus. Becoming more like Jesus and proclaiming his salvation are two other purposes for our existence. The act of giving is fundamental to this procedure.

5. Giving helps us remember how much we rely on one another.
   Donating to others is a constant reminder of our shared humanity and the fact that we were created to share in the adventures of life. At various points in my life, I’ve either had an item that another person really wanted or been in a position to provide that item. This kind of mutual support strengthens our bonds as a group and adds depth to our shared experiences. Since the beginning, this is how the Lord intended for us to live: sharing our resources for the benefit of everyone.

Each member of the body of Christ brings unique gifts and abilities to the table. Nobody can say they have everything they want. It’s crucial to provide so that everyone may meet their basic needs. Everyone plays an important role and has something to offer. If we pretended differently, we’d be lying to ourselves. I’m grateful that we don’t have to face challenges alone and that generosity pays dividends in ways we can’t even fathom.

Giving to others may be very rewarding if approached with the appropriate frame of mind. The more I do it, the more I understand how much of a gift it is to myself, as well as the person I am benefitting. The Lord’s ability to take what I give and turn it into something wonderful that I could never do on my own is one of the most satisfying aspects of giving. I hope we all have the same experience, and that we are able to appreciate the benefits of giving and how it changes us for the better.
