How Pastor Adeboye Publicly Criticized Government’s New Policy And Pointed Out The Weak Points

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, criticized a new government policy which many Nigerians are told to comply with.

The new policy is being enforced in some states in Nigeria. The policy mandates Nigerians to take COVID-19 vaccine before they can be allowed to do certain things or enter certain public places. This policy has been made compulsory in some states in Nigeria such as Edo State, Ondo State among others. Governor Godwin Obaseki and Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu are taking the policy so serious as they order strict enforcement of the policy in their various states. Other states are considering adopting the same policy to ensure that it is mandatory for the residents to get vaccinated.

But, Adeboye openly criticized it. He went ahead to point out the weak points of the policy which should make the states that have made it compulsory to have a rethink. This article will examine the grounds upon which Adeobye criticized the new policy on COVID-19.

It was made mandatory for every resident to get vaccinated. This is the first ground that Adeboye criticized the policy. Many Nigerians have also condemned the idea of making the vaccination compulsory for citizens. Those who hold this view believe that it violates human rights and the idea of democracy which Nigeria practices as a country.

In this regard, while wearing nose masks, physical distancing, use of hand sanitizers and other protocols should be enforced, it is wrong to mandate everybody to take the vaccine in view of the controversies trailing its safety among experts. Adeboye believes that the government should not make it mandatory for residents and civil servants as the case is in some states. People should be allowed to choose whether to get vaccinated or not instead of forcing them todo so against their wish.

Moreover, doses of vaccines available are not enough. Adeboye knocked the policy on this ground too. He pointed out that the state governments that made it mandatory did so to make Nigerians laugh since they know fully well that the available dozes are not enough. The dozes cannot even go round if everybody obeys the order and goes for vaccination. Why then will the state governments turn around and make it mandatory for residents to get vaccinated before they can go to the banks and other public places?

Nigeria is among the countries that have repeatedly complained of not having enough dozes of the COVID-19 vaccines. Consequently, the available ones are usually shared to states and allocated to categories of people. There is usually a priority placed on the vulnerable people such as the aged ones. Also, key health workers and government staff are given priority. But, the argument is that the limited dozes available cannot go round for everybody. That is why it is not good to make the vaccination mandatory.
